Ask a group of yoga teachers what the toughest part of growing a successful yoga business is and you’ll likely hear at least one teacher mention that it’s getting yoga clients—or attracting new yoga students—that is the challenging aspect of building a yoga business.

But with some strategic planning, you can level up your chances of filling your yoga classes with students and clients.

While there isn’t one rule or one way to attract yoga clients or students, there are definitely some tried and true strategies. There is a lot YOU can do to attract yoga clients and fill your classes. If you’re struggling to fill programs or just starting out, it might feel like it’s hard to get yoga clients, but these strategies when applied consistently can pay off.

1. Be Consistent. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing in life or what type of business or goal you’re trying to make happen, consistency is key. Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have to invest your time, energy, and resources into achieving your dream. Figure out what consistency looks like and feels best to you and stick with it. You can’t expect success if you only work on your business occasionally. To attract yoga students and clients—and to keep them coming back for more—you need to be consistent in your marketing, your messaging, you brand, your class schedule, and your social visibility, among other things.

2. Define Your Ideal Client. To fill your classes and yoga business client list, it’s essential that you have a good understanding of who you’re trying to reach. Who is your ideal client? You have to know who you are targeting with your marketing, business direction, and social media campaigns. Getting and attracting yoga clients means you’re actually reaching them in the first place. Having a crystal clear definition of your idea client will help big time to attract clients.

3. Focus on building authentic connections. To get students—and to retain them—it’s imperative that you build authentic connections. In other words, be real with your students and clients. Show up exactly as YOU. People are drawn to authenticity.

4. Build a niche practice and establish yourself as an expert in this niche. This one is related to defining your ideal client. Consider creating a niche practice or specialty in the yoga industry and establishing yourself as an expert in the space. This will help attract ideal clients who are looking for exactly what you’re offering. In creating your niche, think about who you would love to work with most and what type of yoga programs or classes you’d like to teach, or be known for offering in the yoga industry.

5. Network, network, network. To attract yoga clients, don’t underestimate the value of networking. Build your network! Business and yoga connections will help you grow your yoga business and help students discover you. These days people often think that networking happens exclusively online or at major conferences, but that mindset misses so many networking opportunities. Network in your local community! Host community events, classes, online groups, and connect at local meet-ups, as well.

6. Build brand visibility and trust. Building and maintaining a strong online presence can play a key role in attracting yoga students and growing your yoga business. Sure, there are plenty of yoga teachers who are successful and to this day have limited online presence, but if you’re starting to build in the yoga space now, you’d be remiss to ignore the value in building an online presence to attract clients. You can build brand visibility by having a website, blog, social media channels, YouTube channel, or even a Linkedin presence. You can create social media content, like yoga practice videos or reels to boost your brand visibility. By getting visible and promoting your business message (and offers), prospective yoga students and clients will come to trust you.

7. Spread the word. Word of mouth remains a powerful way to grow your yoga business and to get clients. You can spread the word by offering a business or class review system (think Google reviews), offering referral programs, or free incentive classes, such as bring a friend to class day.
